Agraded collector's cardis a trading card (e.g. Pokémon, sports cards, or Magic: The Gathering) that has been sent to an independent company to:
- Verified– check that the card is authentic.
- Assessed in condition– experts examine the card's surface, corners, edges and centering.
- Rated– the card is given a numerical rating (often on a scale of 1–10, where 10 means "almost perfect condition").
- Sealed– the card is encased in a hard plastic container (“slab”) with a label showing the rating, serial number and information about the card.
The aim is to provide aobjective quality assessmentthat buyers and sellers can trust. A graded card is therefore more difficult to manipulate, easier to value and often more valuable than an ungraded card in the same condition.
