Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - A new adventure in the Paldea region awaits!
Scarlet & Violet (Base Set) is the first main expansion in the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and launched on March 31, 2023. The Japanese counterparts are called, Scarlet ex and Violet ex.
A variety of design changes!
A number of design changes to the Pokémon Trading Card Game were implemented starting with the Scarlet & Violet expansion. For an international audience, yellow edges on Pokémon cards will be grayed out to match the cards released in Japan, providing a more uniform Pokémon TCG experience around the world while highlighting the cards' illustrations and artwork. Additionally, set symbols will be replaced by expansion codes and language codes on all cards.
New subcategories for trainer cards
Coach card subcategories such as Supporter, Item, and Stadium will appear in the upper left corner to be more visible in players' hands. Basic energy cards will display an additional energy symbol in the lower right corner to make it easier to track during gameplay. Pokémon Tool cards will now also be considered a category of trainer cards. They were previously a subcategory of "Item cards".
"ex" cards make their long-awaited comeback!
The so-called "ex" cards originally debuted nearly 20 years ago in Pokémon EX Ruby & Sapphire and were a mainstay in the Pokémon TCG until EX Power Keepers in 2007. Now they're finally back in Scarlet & Violet, and while they can see slightly different looking, they retain the core of the original mechanics.
