Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: 151 launched in the fall of 2023. This new-age expansion brought many older enthusiasts back to the hobby. Here's basic information about the first 151 Pokemon cards and the origins of the relaunch.
" Pokémon 151 " refers to the original 151 Pokémon cards from the first generation of Pokémon, taking you on an unforgettable journey in the Kanto region.
The first cards released were in the late 1990s, they quickly became a huge success, and you could see the popularity grow enormously in a short time.
The first cards came from the games "Pokémon Red" and "Pokémon Green" launched in Japan in 1996.
The first generation includes famous Pokemon like Pikachu, Charizard, Meowth, Gengar, Mewtwo and many more.
The first Pokemon cards were released in sets or expansions such as Base Set, Jungle, Fossil and Team Rocket. The base set was the very first set that came out in 1996 in Japan and 1999 in the US and Europe.
Among the original 151 cards there are some very rare and sought after cards, especially "holographic" cards. Charizard from the Base Set is perhaps the most famous.

The cards feature artwork that is often hand-drawn, giving each Pokemon its own unique style. Artists such as Ken Sugimori, Mitsuhiro Arita and Kagemaru Himeno contributed to these iconic illustrations.
Since the release of the first Pokémon cards, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has evolved tremendously, with thousands of new cards and many more Pokémon from subsequent generations.
Together, the original 151 Pokémon cards represent the beginning of a worldwide phenomenon that is more popular than ever. The Pokémon Trading Card Game is one of the biggest trading card games today and millions of collectors and enthusiasts come together to collect and play the card game!
With that being said, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet 151 is an homage to the original Pokémon cards but in a newer, more modern design to fit today's Pokémon TCG environment!
